Best Year Yet for Students

From the beginning our dream has been to make a big difference to young people. Although life can be challenging and confusing at every point in the journey, the years between 12 and adulthood can be especially painful.

Our Best Year Yet for Students Program is reaching teens in a way they are able to connect with their true selves and start to make choices that really work for them. Before many months into a program for teens, we're seeing a growing confidence and happiness in students who are creating their best year yet.

They love being given the tools to walk more gracefully and powerfully through the tricky teen years - across the bridge from childhood to the adult world. They are amazed to discover the difference it makes to challenge their limiting assumptions and shift to a stronger connection with their personal beliefs and values.

Why it works

Our experience shows that students of this age are ready to take more control of their lives and stand on their own two feet. However because they are still treated like children, they ignore much of the advice that's given to them. They might not know what's best for them, but we're never going to know it by looking at some of their attitudes and behaviour. The trick is to turn that cockiness into genuine confidence.

We empower students to think for themselves and move from resisting the world around them to telling the truth about what they really want. And, almost without fail, it's exactly what their teachers and parents would want for them.

When students are given the chance to answer 10 important questions and make a plan for their best year yet, the results are inspiring. They do know what's best -- once they're shown how to delve below the surface and get in touch with what matters most to them.

Erika Mickelburgh, Principal and President for St. Gregory the Great High School has this to say about how Best Year Yet is impacting her students:

I can't begin to express my sincere gratitude for your passion in working with St Gregory High School. You are making such a profound difference in the lives of the students, the culture of the school and the future of how educators can develop character education. I can't help but imagine a world where adolescents feel they have control and influence over their own life goals and success--your work is making this a possibility.
